This is our second visit. It's right down the street from my daughters school so we will deifnetly be back.
If you're going for economy their lunch menu is perfect. Pick and 3 items for only 10.
Today we got here later so it's the full menu. The prices are reasonable for sushi. And the presentation is fantastic. Beautiful bowl of chirashi and elegant white dragon roll. They ask if you want chilli powder on your edamame, do it, it's delicious.
Our server was really polite and the chef came out to apologize. Our mains came out staggered. Totally worth it, delicious.

We were greeted with a very polite waiter and were seated. Please was nearly empty. One table with customers. Told waiter to give us 5-10 minutes to figure out what we wanted to order. He came back. Took our order. A customer and his family came in and were seated. The waiter then came back with our miso soup. It's been about 15 minutes now and our sushi rolls haven't come out. I don't understand why we waited that long. Our sushi rolls were Not that difficult to make. Ordered the monkey brain, UTEP and TNT. Might come back but would choose another sushi joint to go to. Sushi Zen was closer to hotel but would drive the extra 5-10 miles for faster service.

Pros: The restaurant is very clean and the wait was not long at all (it was a Sunday evening). The waitress was very nice and refilled our water promptly. The fish was fresh. The citrus roll had the perfect hint of lemon flavor that complimented the roll well and did not over power the dish. The Las Vegas roll was creamy and warm. I was nervous to try a deep fried roll, but I would recommend it! The chirashi bowl was beautifully put together.

Cons: They do not give pickled ginger and wasabi with their sushi rolls. I have never seen this before. Even grocery store/gas station sushi serves this with every roll! All we had to do was ask for it, but I thought this was strange. Looking at pictures on yelp, I realized this is something that they normally do not give. It was not an accident or mistake to leave this out. The Coronado location does give pickled ginger and wasabi with each roll.

Was in the area so stopped in for lunch.  Wasn't too crowded.  Quickly greeted and seated.  Service was great overall.  Chef made a mistake in my order but it was quickly corrected.  Started off with a cucumber salad and then had the Amigo roll and the Monkey Brain roll.  Salad had good flavor, and lots more than just a few greens.  Overall filling.  Then dig into Amigo.  Spicy but not too hot.  It was really good.  I would definitely order it again.  Now for Monkey brains.  Honestly, I ordered it cuz of the cool name.  It is stuffed mushrooms cooked just right with the right amount of eel sauce drizzle.  Prices overall are very reasonable for sushi.  Several more I will try next time. Excellent presentation of food as well.

This spot is not quite my cup of green tea.

I was excited at first to give their 3 item lunch special for $10.95 a try as the pictures looked promising.  I realize after today that a few things have changed since those pictures were taken which was a while back.

I ordered the Spicy crab w/ crunch, las vegas roll, and the kan si salad w/ mango.  I also was craving a good roll with mango in it as i love the flavor of sweet mango on sushi sometimes.  I inquired about any of their rolls with that which my waiter happily tried to verify with the chefs.  He pointed out 3 different ones on the regular menu for dinner price, not offered on the lunch special menu. So i also ordered the Panko roll.

I guess they used to be more generous with the size of their lunch special rolls.  Today though, my vegas roll looked like the miniature version of its former, big self.  I couldnt even tell you if it had everything its supppsed to have.  It looked like a regular CA roll with added cream cheese and deep fried.

As for the rest, the spicy crab wasnt that great.  In fact, the rice was more on the dry, blander side.  The Panko roll was good for awhile.  The whole roll was also deep fried which i didnt quite realize when i ordered it.  I wanted more of a fresh tasting mango, not stuffed in all its melted, deep fried ways.  It was too much fried stuff to eat after awhile so i couldnt finish that nor the vegas roll... nor did i really want to neither.  The salad was good except for the huge chunks of seaweed.  I was hoping it would be the stringy version of it, but it was basically a pile of chunked seaweed salad.  No thanks.

I think the only thing good i got out of it was the green tea which tasted more authentic.  The rest was not that great.  Service was excellent at least.  The setting such as the tables could use an upgrade though.  I might come back to give their white fish and mango roll a try as i think they keep that mango fresh.  But it would be hard to convince myself to jus for that.
